Hey ever'body...
Before I post the next main-page update it occurred to me that I could get some input from you. It would be very helpful if you'd reply to this post, WITHOUT reading anyone else's posts first, and answer the question:
What is an E-flat?
This isn't a trick question, and it's not supposed to be in-depth either.. and please, please, don't be clever about it. Just write the first 1-3 sentences that pop into your head based on the question as you interpret it. That is, don't ask "well, what do you mean by that?" because I want to find out what your instinctive answer will be without any further explanation.
Thanks! |

| It's a dot on the music stave that changes depending on other dots it is surrounded by. |

At first I saw in my mind a black piano key.
Then I heard in my mind a Metallica song from the 80's. They tuned the low E string on their guitars one step down to E-flat, and so many of the songs tended to be in the key of E-flat. |

| E-flat is one of the brighter notes, great for boogie-woogie/rock songs because it has a lot of energy. It's a very 'up', or 'awake' key. More similar to 'E' than to 'D'. |

I've already written a bit about this that I haven't yet posted to the main page, and I hope there will still be more responses here, but a quick bit of info to those who have already posted their answers...
I was reading an article about categorization which points out that you can determine how you categorize an object X by honestly answering the question "What is X?" Once you answer, notice whether your first response was to give X's physical characteristics or to give its functional use. Secondly, examine your answer to see what other objects you've mentioned, because these are members representative of what you believe to be X's primary category. |

ok, so what would be an (honest) categorisation of a person with Absolute Pitch?
My categorisation is clearly of a relative listener... |

| Eb is a note, it is a the key of a tune, and a kind of muscle memory "visualisation" on my sax |

| An e-flat is a musical tone. It can be used in chords and melodies. |
