another game idea

Postby Axeman » Fri Jan 17, 2014 11:44 pm

Thinking of a computer game of porker or Euchre with pitches?
The players could each have a randomly generated hand of pitches visually represented by cards. Each card's sound could be heard ala APA.
Then a chord or melody would be heard containing a bunch of pitches which players could combine with their own hand while discarding unwanted cards in both the kitty and their own hand, to make standard hands like full house, three of a kind etc. Bets could be placed and, at the show of hands, challenges to a players hand could be made and checked. I suppose there might only be one suit though (12 pitches corresponding to each card - missing out the king or some other card like 2) unless of course various octaves could stand for suits.
Would this provide a function for pitches (meaning is supplied via its use as an ideal hand flush, straight, 2 of a kind , etc) and a reasonably fun game?

more than one aspect to test

it would be cool if APA would test for both chroma and scale degree at the same time. This would amount to identifying whether the test has a C in it and if it does then the player would have to provide a a number for the degree as well. I suppose the tests would be limited to chords where the root could be determined easily enough. Unless it was taken to be the bottom most note maybe.
