Favorite custom keys

donut, deer, ..., teapot = 1, Q, 2, W, 3, 4, R, 5, T, 6, Y, 7

This key layout is the mirror image (front to back) of one octave of the piano keyboard. I have found that it works very well for me.

I prefer not to look at the screen much as I play, so it's a helpful mnemonic device to have the number keys mapped to the scale degrees of the major scale / the major and perfect intervals. Also, I like that the layout does not resemble a piano keyboard too closely, because it keeps me from getting confused once the game starts using keys other than C major.

If you use custom keys, what is your favorite layout?

My custom keys are X,C,V,B,A,S,D,F,G,Q,W,E. X for deer, C for rain ... and E for doughnut.

I chose these keys because they form a pattern on the keyboard that resembles the pattern on a guitar fretboard that I mentally use to think of intervals. For example the key Z is the root tone (which is not used), and the key E is two keys to the right and two rows over from the root, just like the octave on a guitar is two frets to the right and two strings over from the root.
