Re: Chris what are you up to?

I'd also like to know the state of things. I was a very active forum member and ETC user some 6 or 7 years ago. It's disheartening to come back to an inactive forum and no recent research update.

Is the project dead?

Re: leveleven

And how about now, any new news as to how the levels have been progressing? A small thought: if height/timbre judgements are a worry, why not introduce different octaves and different timbres from the outset of the game? The idea being too mix the mechanism of APA with APP, forcing you to make judge...

Re: ETC v7 is now available.. at long last

Hey Chris,

I've sent a couple emails requesting an update to v7 but haven't gotten a reply. Could you send the updated version along please? (To the email associated with my forum account here)

Thanks

Also to anyone who's played with Absolute Pitch Painter a lot, are there any obvious holes that need to be fixed? Not in terms of the program itself (bugs, glitches, etc.) but the theory behind what Absolute Pitch Painter is supposed to do -- develop categorical perception of chroma/pitch. The probl...

Wary of Results

Hey Chris, regarding the experiment you conducted with identifying out of tune and in tune intervals, how big was the population/how were they selected for besides asking people on the forum if they wanted to volunteer?

I'm wary of the results because I suspect a small population.

Homepage Updates

Hey all, Just checking in with APP and seeing how everything is going. Still in the midst of school, so I haven't had time to actually use APP myself. But I still read the front page updates and I've been wondering why there's been a hiatus in the posting? Curious about the research people got recru...

Varying Octaves/"Height"

I apologize if someone has already posted something similar, I just read Dr. Aruffo's (safe to call you that now, Chris?) front page research in which he expresses concern about learning to separate our feeling of "height" from our chroma perception. And he also expresses some concern abou...

hmm

I'm curious, has anyone who plays APP noticed any permanent effects of the game? (ie are the categories formed permanent or do they fade with time away from the game?)

Hey Chris, could you post something about what you'll have to do as a participant, and how long of a time commitment it is?

back for good?

Hey Chris, I'm sure you remember me posting a bunch about a year ago. I was the guy constantly heckling you on when you were going to get back to tackling perfect pitch, after getting your degree and all. Needless to say, I was a bit hypocritical and had to take some time off myself for school. Now ...

Hey Space, I think it really just depends on what you want out of ear training and ability to discern pitch. Personally, I'm most interested in the phenomenon we call "perfect pitch" and what that entails musically -- I'm speaking of young children who seemingly grow up with the ability wi...

Hey All, I'm just dropping back in to see how things are going. Wrapped up my first semester at college. Haven't posted in a long time -- but I still checked in now and then during the year. How are things coming with the research as we approach new years Chris? I've got more than enough on my plate...

Thanks lorelei! I have some friends at Harvard that I might visit. I'll let you know if I'm ever in the area in case you're interested in meeting up. We could sightread some sonatas or something. I'm worried I won't have much time to ear train with APA once school begins, so I'll just do a few level...

I'm headed off to Cornell University. It's in upstate New York. I'll be in the college of arts and sciences -- undecided major, but probably some kind of science/engineering (if i transfer to engineering). And (hopefully) I'll be taking violin lessons from the violin faculty sponsor there, if my aud...
