Re: categorical perception training
What do you imagine that this would do, in the listener's brain? Why do you suspect this would be (more) meaningful? I'm not sure I follow, entirely, what you're suggesting, but my memory of that rehearsal for Frog and Toad, where I heard the tonic ring out so clearly as the foundation of the entir...

categorical perception training
Hi all, Still no life on this forum I see. I was re-reading the research by Chris. Here is a thought that I am wondering may provide the function of a pitch category. If the training was to include cadences that have a 'bottle neck' effect on certain pitches this may be the context for meaningful ch...

Re: Perfect Pitch Mnemonics
Same as melody word method. Same as pitch paths method. Wouldn't pay fifty bucks. One guy is doing this for free on YouTube. I like his idea of making each melody word personally significant to you. I.e use ones familiar to you.

I think that a chord degrees aspect to the game would be cool. Something akin to what has been mentioned in the forum to do with hearing at first one then two, then three etc degrees both melodically and harmonically. Sometimes I get the feeling that this is what is being trained in APP because i on...

I have experienced this a few times now...when I am using other software that call for note identification - I can definitely hear the whistling quality of the F and G notes in the same octave that APP tests. I have noticed similar things with my tuning experiment. When these notes are played in oth...

guitar tuning experiment
I have been playing a little game with my AP Tuner app on my phone. What I do is take an open string and play a number of notes at the standard pitch and then wind the tuning peg sharp and flat and listen for the change in character at the border of the pitches. I go a semitone to a tone in either d...

As I look at my results I see that the red is greater than green for the orange -green, and yellow red categories but that for the other two on level three the graph is the other way around. This suggests that I am not ddiscerning the category boundary very well between blue-grey and brown and betwe...

understanding the charts and moving up to level 4
I found that while playing the last game on level 4 if i looked away from the screen I instantly reverted to listening for what I have come to assume is the chroma of each note. I also was able to decide more quickly about each note not even looking at the score til near the end. Maybe this was just...
